Indigenous groups have for centuries reap the fruits between March and April, according to the traditional method, and grind in mortars the sun-dried berries. It is well known that honey is an effective antibacterial and, in addition to being completely natural, is nutritious and energetic, rich in vitamins, minerals, fructose, glucose, water and enzymes that make it an excellent dietary supplement. In addition, it has a high sweetening power, but with less calories than sugar, due to the presence of fructose. Applied to the skin performs purifying, healing and hydrating activities, in addition to nourishig the skin due to its sugar content. The resin from which the essence is obtained comes out of the trunk of the tree, through cuts applied along the shaft, which then hardens on contact with air. This gum resin is one of the classic ingredients of the Java incense and it releases its intense and vigorous aroma, if subjected to heat. For thousands of years, the benzoin has been burnt as incense in religious ceremonies to create a climate adequate to the manifestation of the divinity and drive away evil spirits. Since ancient times it has been famous for its healing and disinfectants properties. The inhabitants of Borneo cured the headache inhaling the scent of the benzoin resin, and massaging with oil the temples and forehead. Primitive peoples of Malaysia used it for religious purposes (burning it in sacrificial rites to drive off evil spirits) as a medicine, as a fixative for perfumes as an ingredient of the incense. In ancient China it was known for its disinfectant, stimulants and sedatives properties. In India, the doctors prescribed it for its aromatic virtues. It arrived to the West along the "spice route", the sea route linking Southeast Asia to West Africa. From here, it went up to the Nile valley to arrive to Asia Minor and then Europe, where it was used as a medicine and perfume fixative. In the Middle Ages it was known the "tincture of benzoin" or "balsam of the friars', very popular for inhalation in respiratory diseases. The benzoin, being a solar plant, produces an oil that gives energy, tone and vigor, and at the same time, acts favorably on the mind, dispelling tension, relaxing, comforting and acting as a harmonizer buffer between the individual and stressful events, producing a kind of euphoria. The effect it produces is pleasantly refreshing, the same sensation that you feel when exposing warm sunshine. Benzoin oil is recommended when you want to increase the strength and energy on a psychic level, while at the mental level, is calming and soothing, helping reduce anxious feelings and resentment. Mainly rich in benzoic acid,  cinnamic acid and vanilla (which gives it the characteristic aroma of sugar), is useful for a soothing and warming action. The essence is also used in the treatment of skin diseases, especially eczema. Its antibacterial properties makes it effective for the treatment of respiratory infections. A hot bath with a few drops of benzoin essence and cinnamon is ideal on cold days, since  these oils stimulate circulation and warm the body. In addition, they help to prevent the flu and treat colds when they occur. Effective against dry skin and offers a great help to firm the connective tissue. The benzoin is a great healer: heals wounds on the skin, ulcerations, sores, frostbites and cracked skin. It is also a great help for acne and rosacea. If necessary, it should be applied topically in tincture or ointment, or added to face or hand creams (three drops in a 50 ml confection). It can be mix with lemon and lavender (a drop of each), two species indicated for skin care. The benzoin extract has a strong heating effect and is therefore indicated in cases of respiratory infections and diseases, since it is an excellent expectorant and antiseptic.

In practice, it prevents the development of bacterial flora.
